Now, I’m a big wedding nerd… and a huge admirer of the late Princess Diana, but I think that might be where the line would be drawn for me.

That said, the tradition of saving the top layer of the wedding cake to eat at a later date was popular for many, many years. Some ate it on their first anniversary, others served it on the occasion of their first born. These days, with cakes being baked in so many flavours and in much lighter forms, the idea of saving top layer must be considered and planned with your baker before doing so.
